MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Department: R&D / Product Engineering
Reports To: Head of R&D / Product Engineering
Experience Required: 5+ Years
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Rohini, India
Qualification: B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related discipline
Job Summary
Owns the physical design and manufacturing release of enclosures, housings, and structural assemblies for Servotech’s EV chargers, power electronics, inverters/converters, and energy storage products. Translates electrical, thermal, and EMC constraints — supplied by the Thermal / CAE Simulation Engineer — into manufacturable, cost-optimised, field-reliable mechanical hardware.
Scope Boundary
OWNS:
• Mechanical geometry, 3D CAD, drawings, BOMs and GD&T
• Sheet-metal design and DFM/DFA
• Material and surface-finish selection
• IP-rating sealing design (gaskets, glands, drainage)
• Vendor tooling, prototyping and First Article Inspection (FAI)
• Drawing/BOM/ECN release and PDM/PLM discipline
DOES NOT OWN:
• Structural FEA sign-off — owned by Thermal / CAE Engineer
• Thermal / CFD analysis — owned by Thermal / CAE Engineer
• Electromagnetic / EMC simulation — owned by Thermal / CAE Engineer
• Designs to the constraints supplied by CAE; may run first-pass design checks only
Key Responsibilities
• Enclosure & Mechanical Design — develop 3D models, design drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing-ready GD&T drawings for enclosures, housings, and structural assemblies in SolidWorks / AutoCAD.
• Sheet Metal & DFM — design for laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, stamping, and welding; apply DFM/DFA; minimise part count and cost.
• Materials & Finishes — select metals (CRS, galvanised/stainless steel, aluminium alloys, die-cast aluminium, copper) and surface treatments (powder coating, anodising, plating) for mechanical, corrosion, and cost performance.
• Design-to-Constraint — implement thermal features (airflow paths, heat-sink envelopes, fan/vent cut-outs), EMC features (shielding apertures, gasket channels, grounding/bonding points), and electrical clearances per the constraint set issued by the Thermal / CAE Engineer.
• IP Rating & Sealing — design IP54/65/66 sealing and drive mechanical validation of ingress protection.
• Vendor & Tooling — coordinate tooling, prototypes, and FAI with fabrication vendors.
• Prototyping & Iteration — build and assess prototypes for fit, assembly, and mechanical strength; drive design iterations from results.
• Documentation & PLM — maintain drawings, BOMs, ECNs, and revisions in PDM/PLM; participate in DFMEA and design reviews.
Required Technical Skills
• ✓ Enclosure & Sheet-Metal Design (CAD)
• ✓ GD&T & DFM / DFA
• ✓ Metal Selection & Surface Treatment
• ✓ IP Rating & Sealing Design
• ✓ Mechanical Tolerance Stack-up
• ✓ Vendor Tooling, Prototyping & FAI
Software Expertise
| Mandatory | Preferred
| SolidWorks (3D Modelling, Sheet Metal) | CATIA / Siemens NX
| AutoCAD | KeyShot (rendering)
| PDM / PLM | SolidWorks Simulation (first-pass checks only)
Key Result Areas (KRA)
• Mechanical / enclosure design released on schedule for each NPI program.
• Manufacturability and cost — designs hit DFM and cost targets.
• Quality — first-pass acceptance of parts and prototypes.
• Vendor and tooling management — tooling delivered on time, FAI cleared.
• Documentation and PLM discipline — clean, traceable releases.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
| KRA Area | KPI (Metric) | Proposed Target | Cadence | Design Release | % of NPI mechanical milestones released on time | ≥ 90% | Per program
| Quality | First-pass FAI acceptance rate | ≥ 85% | Per part
| Quality | Rework ECNs raised per design release | ≤ 2 | Per release
| Cost / DFM | Enclosure/mechanical BOM cost vs target | Within ±5% | Per program
| Reliability | IP-rating pass on first prototype build | ≥ 80% | Per program
| Speed | Prototype-to-production cycle time vs baseline | ≤ baseline | Per program
| Efficiency | Part-count reduction / standardisation (like-for-like) | ≥ 10% | Annual
Desired Candidate Profile & Why Join
• Hands-on experience designing enclosures for EV chargers, power electronics, inverters, converters, or energy storage systems, with strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes.
• Proven ability to collaborate across electrical, thermal, and manufacturing teams in a fast-paced R&D environment.
• Own enclosure architecture decisions for next-generation EV charger and power electronics product lines — with competitive compensation and growth in India’s leading clean-energy ecosystem.
