Job Description
Solar Site Surveyors and Technicians are the professionals who perform the crucial on-ground assessment and installation.
· Site Assessment: They visit the property to gather detailed, physical information, which includes taking measurements of the roof, assessing its condition and structural integrity, and identifying potential obstructions like trees or chimneys.
· Electrical System Check: A core part of their job is evaluating the existing electrical panel, meter, wiring, and grounding to determine if upgrades are necessary for seamless integration.
· Data Collection: They use specialized tools, such as solar pathfinders, laser measuring devices, and drones, to collect accurate data on sun exposure and shading patterns.
· Installation/Maintenance: Technicians are also responsible for the physical installation, assembly, testing, and ongoing maintenance and repair of the solar PV system.
Key Skills and Knowledge
Both roles require significant electrical knowledge to ensure safety and system functionality.
· Electrical Knowledge: A solid understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and electrical codes is essential for both design and installation.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency with design software (like AutoCAD), computer modeling, and performance analysis tools is critical, especially for engineers.
· Communication Skills: Both professionals need to communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and installation crews to ensure a smooth project from start to finish.
